Adriano Zumbo

If you are a dessert lover, you may need to make one of life’s most difficult decisions upon entering the shop – which cake to choose? Adriano Zumbo’s cakes and pastries are all amazingly beautiful and intricate.

If you have watched MasterChef Australia, you may have watched Chef Adriano challenging contestants with his difficult-to-create desserts, also incorporating unusual ingredients such as black olive and beetroot to sweet treats.

The macarons are enough for me to pause and think about. There are twelve flavours currently in production. They range from the fruitiness of pink grapefruit, pineapple & ginger, forest berry and green apple, to the more unusual blue cheese, yoghurt & chilli, liquorice and coconut pandan. Dessert-inspired flavours bring the candy pink coconut encrusted "finger bun", a deep brown "sticky date pudding" and the almond flaked "feullitine".

Adriano Zumbo's website will tell you he trained at the world-famous pastry school Ecole Lentore in Paris. It's clear at first glance that these are no ordinary desserts. Each gateaux is considered and deliberate, creative flavour and textures merged into exquisite edible art forms that are almost a shame to eat. The quirky names of many of his desserts only add to the appeal.
